Domestic Abuse

Domestic violence is any threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between adults who are or have been in a relationship, or between family members. It can affect anyone regardless of their gender or sexuality.

There are laws to protect you and your children and we can advise you. In an emergency, you should always contact the police.

We can also put you in touch with local organisations who offer support for you and your children.

Under the Family Law Act 1996, the courts can make an order that will protect you from threats and or actual violence and abuse. This is called a Non Molestation Order.

You can obtain an order that will regulate the occupation of your family home by removing your abuser and allowing you to remain safely in your home. This is called an Occupation Order.
