Ecclesiastical Work

We have special expertise in the law as it relates to the Church in Wales. The Church in Wales was created in 1920 upon its "disestablishment" from the Church of England. Its affairs and those of its component bodies are governed by detailed rules requiring specialist legal knowledge.

Swayne Johnson Solicitors are proud to have been associated with the Diocesan Registry of St Asaph for over 200 years. We and our predecessors have acted as Diocesan Registrars since 1808. The Diocesan Registrar acts as legal secretary to the Bishop of St Asaph. We therefore have a breadth and depth of knowledge in this particular specialised area of work.

Our consultant, Mr David Hooson, has been Registrar of the Diocese of St Asaph for 36 years and is the Senior Diocesan Registrar in the Church in Wales. Consequently, even if he does not know the answers he does know where to look for the same!

This type of work incorporates a mixture of litigation and non-contentious work, together with property and charity work. Due to the diversity of its components, please contact one of our lawyers to discuss your individual requirements.
